Sharpe took the writing advice of putting your readers directly into the action from the beginning instead of explaining incredibly seriously, and I absolutely agree with this call. I don't think a book has ever hooked me this fast in my life, man.

I find it v unlikely that a police chief would TELL a suspect who brought them up as a suspect?? Especially in a notably violent murder.

Honest to God, I think that the worst part of this book for me is the delivery and the cursed fucking husband stitch. Like childbirth is straight up body horror, and I did not need the encouragement to not have kids.
