Jason Williams is on page 133 of 608 of Area X: The Southern Reach Trilogy: Annihilation; Authority; Acceptance
Finished the first section of the trilogy. Intriguing dreamlike/nightmarish story with a weird fiction twist. Very enjoyable. Now on to part 2 "Authority".

I must admit that I was startled by how many times that Hemingway used the word nigger in these first 20 pages. It is something that actually makes me cringe a little bit every time I encounter it. I am enjoying the story so far and will try to finish the book but it is somewhat difficult to get past the overt racism.

Jason Williams is on page 97 of 237 of Your Inner Fish: A Journey Into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body
Interesting that some of the best examples of early mammal fossils were found along the beach near Parrsboro Nova Scotia.
I was on that beach a few weeks ago with a guided tour from the Fundy Geological Museum.
Current section of the book is covering early embryonic development and the similarity between human and fish particularly around the head and nervous system. Fascinating read so far!

Jason Williams is on page 200 of 304 of The End of Memory: A Natural History of Alzheimer's and Aging
Interesting that most of the drugs in development to treat Alzheimer's is focused on the plaques that build up in the human brain over the years. It has not been proven conclusively that the plaques are in fact the mechanism by which Alzheimer's degrades memory formation. It may be a symptom instead of a cause in which case all of these drugs being developed will be virtually useless.

Very interesting read with lots of material about the latest research on Alzheimer's.
One thing that caught my attention was the findings of how education correlates with developing Alzheimer's.
"Those who stop at or before grade 8 have about double the risk of those that complete high school, who in turn are at greater risk than those who complete university and so on."

You know that it is an older book when you encounter sentences such as "I have to pick up my pen at a shop where it is being repaired".
