Mortimer and Colin at Jane's work were also so cute. I loved that all three of the women had such unique jobs and very different personalities but were equally easy to empathise and connect with. The end was slightly less engaging and I seemed to slow down but overall it was a really nice easy read.

I am so pleased that Jane ended up with Joseph because they really had a slow burn and she definitely deserved him. It was also cute how all the characters came together at the end in honour of Siobhan. It was definitely a satisfying ending. Miranda's sisters along with, Siobhan's friends and Jane's growing friendship with Aggie were also highlights.

It was fun to piece together some of the parts of the different perspectives - like that Jane had been the secretary of this guy. It made sense for Miranda and Joseph not to end up together and I am pleased she got her happy ending with Joseph. Oh, also the new years eve party really was the perfect point for the temporal gap in perspectives to be revealed as I initially thought they were going to the same party.

It was a further shock when we eventually found out that Jane was actually the most present perspective. I was so sad that Siobhan died as she was probably my favourite but it did bring clarity to some of Joseph's behaviour. It was just as she had her happy ending as well. I liked how all the perspectives had the horrid man in common.

Although he was the only character consistent throughout the perspectives it was interesting that we never got to see his pov. I was really trying to work out how things would piece together so that he wasn't literally just trying to decide between three women. I had not expected for the perspectives to be years apart and initially thought it was Siobhan in one year, then Jane, then Miranda.

Initially Joseph was painted out to be this guy seeing three women at once which I wasn't keen on but for some reason I just couldn't bring myself to hate him. I felt most drawn to Siobhan's character, although found Jane really sweet and Miranda pretty cool. I enjoyed how each of them had a kind of different relationship with Joseph.

This was the first book I have read (other than Spooks book) for pleasure since being at uni and it was such a joy. I literally raced through the first 75% because of how nice it felt to reading out of choice without being forced to. I have also missed being able to totally understand and easily follow a book without even thinking about it. It felt like watching a movie with no effort which I loved.

Overall, there were definitely some parts I enjoyed and I began with really high hopes but I feel like the writing style got more confusing the older Pip got and so I kind of lost track of exactly what was happening. Oh, also forgot to mention like the main point. It was crazy to find out that Magwis was Estella's real father along with Pip's benefactor.

I was initially unsure how to feel about Biddy and Joe getting married as I imagined her being too young but they were both really nice and so it seemed quite sweet. I knew Pip wasn't going to get together with Estella even after pining for her for so long. It was nice that in the second edition of the ending there was more closure for them than the first.

I have honestly kind of blanked out what happened in the middle but was getting a bit more into it at the end although I did just want to be finished with it. The whole thing with Miss Havisham burning herself was quite interesting along with Pip getting ill. It was so sweet how Joe ended up caring for Pip and paying off his debts even after he had been horrid to him. I am so glad they ended friends.

I really liked Pip's relationship with Joe and to see him leave that behind when he gained wealth and treat him as beneath himself when visited was horrid. I also found Pip's visits to Miss Havisham really interesting. For that to end and him leave for a new richer life in London with many new characters was quite confusing (although I did find his conflict with Drummal quite funny).

I read this entire thing on audiobook (18 hours!) and it took me a really long time. I was actually quite enjoying it to begin with - it was easy to understand and follow and the descriptions seemed so vivid that I really felt like I was there in Mrs Joe's kitchen. These early scenes of Pip as a young boy were the ones I enjoyed the most. It was once he left for London that I started to get confused.

Overall, the end felt slightly unsatisfactory as it was all just happy ever after when there could have been a darker twist or anything really. We also didn't find out the future for any of the characters other than the world we had lived in with them had basically fallen apart and they were all now separated. It was a quick and refreshingly easy read though which for the most part I enjoyed and found interesting.

Still sad she was just left there with her memories though. We never really find out how the characters are going into the future but I really do hope they are all well. When discussing this in a seminar it was actually quite scary how close the world is right now to moving into a stage like this. I found it so interesting to be in Klara's sheltered perspective though.

I found Rick's mother slightly annoying especially when she was messing around Vance but again I understand she was ill and just desperate for Rick to have a good education (just as Josie's mum was desperate). It was quite sad that in the end Josie grew apart from Klara (who had literally saved her life) and ended up being dumped and faded out. I guess it was nice she wasn't used in a science experiment.

It was sad that in the end the two of them drifted apart. I am glad that Josie got better though. That was probably the only part that I was a bit sceptical of. I liked that Klara was so determined she could solve everything and in the end managed to but the fact that she wished for the sun to make Josie better and it just worked was slightly ridiculous.

The whole plot they had to make an AF of Josie and basically transfer Klara into it was so strange and would never have worked because her heart and soul would not have been in there. It clearly showed how desperate her mother was to keep her alive though. I also felt bad for Rick, especially when the mother was asking if he felt like he had won like his best friend wasn't dying.

It was definitely not like anything I have ever read before, being from the perspective of an AI, but I actually really came to like Klara which is slightly strange. She clearly cared a lot about Josie and just wanted to be as human as she possibly could. I felt bad for Josie being ill (especially as her sister had previously died of the same thing) from being 'lifted' to a better class.

This was the final uni book of the year to read and my far the most modern. I listened to a lot of it on audiobook but also read a bit. I was surprised with how fast I managed to get through it and also how much I wanted to continue reading. It didn't feel like a drag or annoyance and instead I was choosing to listen to it over music at times.

The part when Galahad was catching pigeons and Cap catching seagulls was quite disturbing (although masked under the lighthearted style seen throughout) and showed how desperate they all were. Overall, it was quite a nice easy, light read but had some darker tones hidden underneath it. I was surprised at how interesting I found learning and reading about the migrants during the 1950s!

It was also interesting how he was the one wanting to go back to Trinidad at the end even though he had been there longer than any of the others. The clear racism that they experienced and also financial struggle for not being able to find any work was particularly sad.

That is probably why I liked Tanty as she was the only main female character and I was nothing like any of the others. The scene when she arrives with the family at the beginning was so funny as Tolroy really didn't expect or want anyone more than his mum to come. I did like Moses though, he was always willing to help others, even though he was fed up of being relied on so much.

This was particularly prevalent in the 9 page stream of consciousness section which starts out being really nice and describing summer and then takes a bit of a darker turn including the men's use of sex workers and how Moses thought one was dying in his bed. I didn't particularly like how they would refer to the women as either 'skin' or 'pussy'.
