I started this without any knowledge having seen it recommended and having read some of Ian McEwan in the past. I was a little surprised by its alternate reality 1980s setting. Britain having lost the war with Argentina over the falklands. It’s also interesting how it intersects with the relationship between Charlie and Miranda.
