I think this would be a really awesome animated film but I'm just not sold right now.

I am *here* for this fully produced audiobook. Illuminae was a fantastic read for that same reason.

The audiobook is awesome but I also love seeing all of the amazing illustrations. I am firmly in the camp that more books should have illustrations and they should keep being popular in YA and Adult books. They make the reading experience so much better!

I have had this on my list as a "I can always pick the audiobook up" for a while. Didn't realize how much of a fandom it had!
I will say, to tackle parental depression right out of the gate is a tough topic but I think some readers might resonate with it and for those that feel seen I am glad.
On hold for the audiobook and looking forward to it. Maybe this will be my next series now that I've finished Wildwood.

I am speeding through this! Other than the fact that the author called her fantasy land A-land-y (A'landi), I'm digging it.

Okay. Obviously, you shouldn't go on a trip with your grandmother to Alaska as a minor, specifically when there are concerns about your grandmother's mental and physical health. However, I feel like this is a very obvious point and there is a very clear reason why this choice was made (resolving two stories at the same time).

So far this is not only laid out in a visual way that makes the density of the information more digestible but it is, already, an incredible resource. I have a feeling I will keep this on my desk like so many others.

This is beautiful and very compellingly written. Iris's frustrations and sorrow and hope grip my heart. And it makes me happy that so much care was put into this from the author and others in the deaf experience.

It's the "#goals" that got me y'all

I was hoping more for magical realism and romance than revolution, so I'm putting this down. But the writing is awesome, I really like the characters, and so far the political set up and discussion around rights and revolution and how societies adapt to tyrannical rule are well developed. Just want something a little more lighthearted.

Here's the deal - pacing and idea? Great. Repetitive motives expressed the same way over and over, characters with little depth or that I generally dislike that seem to not get better, very cliche character tropes, and a surprising lack of clarity in the world building when it mattered? Enough to make me DNF at half way. I'm good.

Pollux's whole personality is that he saw a cute girl at a circus when he was a kid and got a massive crush that never went away...also he kinda wants to protect his sister...but mainly he just insta-loved really hard as a kid and never got over it 🤦🏼‍♀️

I think the point is to not like Castor but I really don't like Castor. She is so pompous and prickly and unlikable.

Also TW for animal crulty on page right up front around page 70.

Not sure I'm vibing with the writing of this. It reads veryyyy booktok-y (not the good kind) and like she's intentionally trying to get those quotable booktok lines (I am the storm cough cough). It also feels like some things are overly described and some things, like dropping one mention of how a character has eight fingers on his hand and then totally moving on without any explanation, are not explained enough.

Trying to binge this before it gets returned to the library but I don't think I'm gonna make it.

Every time I switch to the audiobook it reminds me how much I dislike the audiobook narrator. Every character is the wrong pitch, with all the kids sounding like a combination of nasalish and uncomfortably high pitched in a way that is unpleasant to listen to.

I really tried and was liking this decently in the first 45%. But this is dragging on and I've lost my hold for the second time with no desire to put it on hold again. Bummer.
