i'm gonna dnf

I thought I’d stop after chapter two (the breast milk scene) overtures of incest will never be something I can stomach. The resolution to the following chapter is why I’m still chugging along. Hiromi Kawakami is becoming my favorite author of the 2020s so I do want to give this book a fair shake. I’m beginning to appreciate the nihilism (???) of each chapter, “love” as a veil, etc… we’ll see!

I feel like I’m in a lull with this book but I so want to finish her! I appreciate the hazy fluidity of her writing style

I am enjoying this, the descriptions of a queer, Black London generationally feel emotional and fluid as the first chapter toggles through decades, age, partners, loss, women, career growth, and gentrification. That being said I found myself annoyed with Yaz’s mother in the beginning of the novel, if anyone else has read the book, I’d love to hear your thoughts on section one

Reading/skimming the book in tandem with the audio book has been a joy, I appreciate the winding thoughts, memories, conversations, and justifications for purchases and collections that Murakami makes. As a collector, and vintage t shirt lover this is as much a gentle read (that makes me fond of my silly keepsakes) as it is a niggling plea to stop buying overpriced tshirts

This is my first attempt at reading a full length horror novel! I am scared but, I’m here for Helen Oyeyemi!
