As beautifully written as expected.

Wonderful read.

So many aspects of this book to discuss! I didn’t hate it but way too long, and I’m not convinced it was necessary. Many good quotes to take from it and great coverage of a difficult topic but too drawn out. I lost sympathy for the character. So sad too I swear my own mood has be affected. I might change this review after I’ve had time to digest more. I was deep in the story but also exhausted and sad.

Wow! Amazing! So richly researched and well written, this book and most definitely “A compelling and important story” I’m so glad I found it!

The last two chapters are worth reading all 399 pages. I felt Cicely’s spirit.

Entertaining.

Wow! Took a while to get into it but then I couldn’t put it down. Nice to get lost in it for a couple weeks! It’s been a long time since I’ve been so engrossed into a book.

Couldn't finish this one - not engaging although very interesting concept if I could of stayed with the writing I know I would be would be curious to see how the Kids made it through the year but it was just to much and not enough!

Much more than I expected. I like book stores which is way I picked this book - the mystery added another level and was enjoyable. It kept me awake listening to noises in the night, some people might like that but I didn’t. Otherwise it’s a great read. If you are easily spooked save it for a beach vacation.

Great book! I enjoyed so many parts of it and cringed at even more parts but the history and story together is just wonderful. Since I just finished it one part that stands out is when Sarah returns home and the feelings she had about seeing Charleston from the ship. Sarah thought, “I was not sorry for loving Charleston or for leaving it. Geography had made me who I was.”

Finished looking forward to book group discussion tomorrow at the Valhalla train station.

Can't wait to taste all the yummy pies we are bringing to book group tomorrow. This was a great book very well written and entertaining. Had me craving pie from the first chapter. It was so interesting to read about the history of pies and think about how creative a pie maker had to be with very basic ingredients!
