100 pages in and it has yet to improve. The majority of the chapters are flashbacks and not to a scene but rather the narrator telling me more about the girl main character and her unlikable mother. There is no character I choose to root for. I hate the mother, the girl, the boys, even the goose is annoying. I expected whimsy going in not dull characters and storyline dressed up with pretty prose.

So far I am underwhelmed. We keep experiencing the same information in different fonts. I understand the severity of this war though not much of the true reasoning for it. I understand her mother is not the nicest mom though not much else about her. I know all these characters are snobs (as they say). But what I have yet to experience is any form of depth or feeling for any of these characters.
