Emma S is starting Never Lie
First audiobook - wanted something energetic with plot. This book is loaded with suspense, but so obviously so that I cringe inwardly listening to it. But I’ll finish it anyway.

Just finished ch6 and I think his argument is not quite correct. Quoting 2 Timothy 3:15, he claims that God’s word is the pillar and buttress of the church. If we read the rest of the Bible, we see that that is not untrue, but it is not what Paul says… rather, Paul writes that the church herself is the pillar and buttress of the truth.
Small detail, but significant.

We started off strong but I’m rapidly becoming disappointed. The female characters all have barely-hidden ‘hidden depths’ that are introduced clunkily. Will keep reading for now but I expected something a little weightier.

Hardy does it again. I’ve enjoyed every single one of his books to a greater or lesser extent, and this was no exception. Secret bethrothals, windy cliff walks and a good deal of heartbreak will always make for a good read. It’s always exciting to be reading a set of books for the first time. I keep waiting to be disappointed, but as of yet have nothing bad to say.

Enjoying this a lot. Not as hard to read as I’d imagined - definitely down to the work of the translator. Finding myself analysing his technique as I read.

Enjoying it more than i thought so far. Easy to read - translator has done a cracking job, and I’m finding myself analysing his techniques as I go.

Artful and addictive. I was late to the party (again), but raced through this in a day or two. Initial fears about graphic violence thankfully didn’t prove too problematic. A good thriller for holiday times.

A good isolation read. One of Hardy’s sadder ones, though. Wuthering Heights vibes.
