I'm not sure im interested enough to continue.
It is couched in the gods of Olympus but really just change the names and it's a sheltered uni student not knowing who she is and meeting a powerful man who she is attracted to against her will.
I don't think i can stomach much more being forced to do stuff against her will and then acquiesce etc

I'm enjoying this so far, I loved Gran in the first couple of chapters, some great lines. Then it moves on to the training academy which is entertaining. I don't normally go for boot camp/school story's but I'm still enjoying this as it is building character knowledge etc

I'm loving this book as much as I had hoped! The only reason I haven't read it in a few days is a current issue with reading.

So far I just don't really care about any of the characters and I just can't see where things are leading or why we are starting where we are.
Not currently in the mood to be bothered finding out.

This book requires a TRIGGER WARNING, a main character recounting instances of serious domestic abuse.
I found it especially harrowing in the audio book and had to stop for a while.

I'm just not enjoying reading this, I'm not sure if it's my current mental state or what but I'm not getting the firefly joy. So I'll put it aside for a while

I don't forsee wanting to continue reading this. It is so pleased with itself. I Had a look at reviews and it doesn't appear to get much better.

So far so aweful. Love the concept, expected witty satire but this is soooo heavy handed.
It feels like the book is jumping arround shouting "look at how clever and funny I am"
Definatly more Panto than Pratchett.
Looking at some of the reviews it doesn't seem likely it will improve. I may try again another time to see if I like it more when I'm in a different mood.

One of Audible's Included.
Seems so full of tropes. Already we have the sworn guardsmen having it off with the wife of his Boss/Owner. Doing so while in searing agony from a shoulder wound, cos nothing will stop him. All blood & sex, no character.
Just not interested at all, Thanks.
Sent it back.

I'm amazed im struggling with this. I love the Characters. I'm a huge Firefly (tv) fan and was excited to read cos 'the books are always better'
Perhaps it's my mood or the writing style or I just haven't given it long enough but i am not connecting with this.

I've taken a break. It took an unfeasibly long time to get into the mystery plot. By the time it had I was so frustrated by the bumbling academics, people who didn't listen & basic stupidity (explained somewhat by lag) that I wasn't enjoying it.
I like the premise, I'm intrigued to know more. However if I listen to another extended confusion that could be solved by a simple question or basic common sense I'll scream

Threat of rape to main character. Rape occurring elsewhere to servant.
There has been a lot of murder and beating - mainly not graphicly described.

It's nice to have a female lead for this style of writing. Good characterisation, a nice use of wise women/prophets along side internal feudal politics etc.
The second book is more consumed with fighting (not just training) than the first.
