A suspicious lack of hounds all of a sudden 🤔

Slowest start in awhile for these books, but holy shit is it wild getting follow-ups and updates on plot threads that have been hanging since books 1 for some. This and the bonehunters feel like proper wrap-ups to many of the events that occurred in the first half of the series. And I hope this book provides a platform for the next two to serve as a finale

Already enjoying the start to this entry more than most of the previous books. Kiera is a fun PoV to get and the dialogue feels fun, sharp, and witty. Like the last book, the start of the story benefits by involving the affairs of fairly normal citizens of this world getting mixed up with our titular Vlad

Moving faster than I had imagined and certainly has been keeping me off balance. The chariot races were incredible and many of the ends already met have been harrowing. Excited to see how the design for the mosaic changes, if at all

Nearly immediately amends many of the critiques I had regarding the females characters in the previous novel. Extremely interested in the presence and purpose of Rustem’s inclusion into the story.

Going into part 2 this might be my favorite start to a Guy novel. Slow enough to allow for character moment, not too many characters, still a decent pace on the set-up. Really enjoyed getting a more detailed supernatural sequence than you usually do in other Kay books.

Really been kept on my toes the second half of this book. The introduction of the Malazans to the continent, and the subversion of their expectations have been equal parts stomach churning and exciting. STILL starving for the Rhulad duels that have finally begun, but the host of new soldiers, tribes, ands factions have kept me fairly routed and on my toes. Still wondering how many bodies will be made by the end

Oh boy! Convergence here we come!

“Welcome back, soldiers” and now we briskly stride to the resolution, and the roads begin to point toward Lether. Only in Malazan does mere comprehension of a plan above plans feel like an achievement in itself. Really enjoyed the journey post-Y’Ghatan that the 14th army has endured, and was glad to see a resolution to the pale goddesses influence on the region. Still waiting for a more clear Eidur reveal.

Brutal way to end Book 2 of this novel, but two chapters into the next and it has been dulled some. Excited to see where the “second climax” of this story lies

Final siege of Y’Ghatan was nuts, can’t believe this is only around 1/3 of the novel. I assumed this would be a huge scene for the final act

4 chapters in And I’m glad to report this book is much easy to keep up with that either books 2 or 4 which this serves as a sequel to.

Love having a collaborative fantasy anthology actually feature recurring characters and acknowledgments of each other’s story beats and continuity. It gives Sanctuary a lot of depth and character!

Surprisingly easy to read and mostly fairly straight-forward. Impressed with how much info Herbert trusts to the reader early-on, both with lore and plot reveals.

Took a minute for the plot to kick in for this one, but again loving the new POVs. Always dig getting a religious character in sci-fi

Happy to be back in my period-piece, historical dragon fiction. While I enjoy that this entry has, so far, kept the more somber tone from the end of the last book, I am struggling to get attached to the new setting and convict characters. Interested in how the Rankin/Caesar plot develops
