I read the second half with my church’s Titus 2 group. Now I need to go back and read the first half.

Lewis believed that War and Peace was the best war novel ever written. He mentioned it several times in his essays. I’m waiting for the scene he describes in The Inner Ring.

I’m bracing myself for Emily Dickinson; she’s a bit modern for me. At least her poems are short!

Book one, part one completed. I think I’m keeping the characters straight, but goodness there are a lot of them!

I had to share the carrot ice cream joke with my daughter who hates carrots. Marya Dmitrievna is my kind of old lady!

The writing is uneven in this part of the book. I think as she gets closer to our own time, it’s harder to pull together the evidence because there is so very much information.
