Death by mayonnaise, Vectorists vs Quaternionists, séances, conspiracy theories becoming increasingly plausible as more is revealed about the book's inner physics. Finally reached chapter 4.

Colonizing time, Stations of the Cross as simulacrum, "men in this era known not to sigh, he exhaled expressively," margarine substitutes, "everyday bourgeois sexuality," more biblical references by anarchists in a Mexican excursion, and an elaborate divergence to a harmonica school closes out chapter 2.

The turn of the century, a short-lived friendship with a ball of energy, a socialist preacher's parable about dynamite, the railroad as enemy, explosion as politics in its purest form, "Chevrolette McAdoo", "Scarsdale Vibe", anarchists, alchemists, and a literary tic of referring to "the day" resonating interminably throughout these opening 120 pages.
