There was a little line that Harry says about romance (and ensuing boredom of the object of romance) making you unromantic and it was so lean and elegant. I really like the prose so far.

Oddly little is happening for a book that doesn’t use many adjectives? Am I missing the point, or is it a slow burn, or am I just projecting my expectations? The Earthseed stuff feels a bit gimmicky.

I think the prose is interesting. Nothing very descriptive, but more focused on what is going on. Feels very conversational. The author conveys a Mad Max style, dry, arid, dystopian future, and a sense of unease and indignation at being the only one who is seeing the massive elephant in the room. Not exactly sure when this was written but the dates referenced are today, and definitely relevant. Feels clairvoyant.

I picked this up ar the airport and it’s kind of trash so far, but let’s see. Feels like just back to back “blinkist” 5 minute summaries of things. The actual points are accurate and valuable, but are very general, so you can’t really do a technical dive into it. However, the more general the point, the less it sticks when you just say the main idea in a single sentence.

This guy has good humour. Such a good writer.

Yeah this good stuff. Very thought provoking, even today. Already a lot of memes, archetypes, and quotables. Also, this is the future that democrats want 🥀🥀

The foreword and introduction were super long, but it was cool to get a glimpse of the author’s life, how his works evolved through the events of his time, and what his “algorithmically adjacent” peers like Margaret Atwood have to say about the book. As far as the actual book, it’s only been two chapters but I can already see the sprouts of a work that is more relevant today than ever.

Pretty decent, but I feel like I haven’t gotten to the meat and potatoes yet. As someone vaguely familiar with the technology and the political vibe of blockchains, it feels more like a refresher. Hope he goes more in depth later either concrete examples and use cases of why this thing can be groundbreaking.

Kind of an info dump. Not super enjoyable to read but the actual content is 10/10. Great psychology, not the best story telling

Super interesting. The idea of heuristics, slow and fast thinking were ones I was familiar with, but the book goes into great detail about just how pervasive the effects of fast thinking are, what they are influenced by, and how the two systems interact with each other.

Loving it
