Reading other reviews, it should payoff so I have been telling myself to stick it out. Not every story is a slog - some are absolutely beautifully prose, characters and threads, but I often have to go back and re-read bits as they were too boring, or too cluttered, to catch the first time through. It’s definitely reminiscent of early 20th century books I’ve read in its writing style, for better and worse.
