Finished part 2, now on The Buddha.
As a performative reader, it gives me great pride to read excellent literature. Stuff that’s so good, it makes me quite sure in my heart that nobody I know is reading anything as good as this. Which, in turn, makes me better than everybody else.

But I am a benevolent performative male, hence the updates. Y’all should be grateful I’m not gatekeeping this.

Rushdie must’ve been in a flow state the entire time he was writing this. This is being added to the “take a semester to teach this once in your career” shortlist.

Prepping to teach this one to my sophomores.

One chapter in and I’m reminded why Steiny is the goat. After reading grapes this summer, just seeing the word “fambly” being used between George and Lenny almost brings tears to my eyes. John Steinbeck knows how to write real human connections better than possibly anyone.

These guys are pretty good friends, I hope nothing bad happens between them.

Book 2 is super long so this is a halfway post. This book is phenomenal. It makes sense that this won the Booker, Booker 25, and Booker 40.

Also, did I let any of you lot borrow my copy of Dracula?
