I’m getting a little tired of novels where the MC is an author themself because it takes me out of the book and feels too meta or circular in a way I can’t fully describe. Other than that enjoying the story so far

Being free means being disliked. It is a marker that you are living true to yourself rather than pandering to everyone around you and therefore wiping away any distinctive marks of your personality. I like the comparison of a free person as a jagged rock and an unfree person as a smooth symmetrical stone that was worn down over time.
