20 pages into the poem and i already want to kill myself

easily most beautiful prose i've read in a while but sir im on a deadline please when is something going to happen. i understand the slowness is the point but please

translation process so convoluted this book is less than 20 pages of actual poetry and 340 pages of forewords introductions footnotes and glosses

i thought this was going to be a drag but it's fascinating actually... i've learned. not very much about the renaissance but a lot more about aestheticism

mrs cadwallader says such out-of-pocket things half the time and the other half she's like objectively correct it's really jarring

‘what i think, dodo […] is that mr casubon was spiteful. i never did like him, and james never did. i think the corners of his mouth were dreadfully spiteful.’ SO TRUE CELIA

DING DONG CRUSTY CASUBON IS DEAD

it rather seems to me the vincy family inheritance is poor financial decision-making. sad!

mr brooke is so astoundingly incompetent. what is even happening

guess i underestimated how much great comet's prologue and russian usage of patronymics helped me remember the names of w&p characters. girl who the hell are all these middlemarchers

dorothea brooke and marya bolkonskaya would be really good friends i think
