Laatste roman van Sally Rooney om te lezen!

Later I saw that change came as change always comes, from a chain of events with a long history, too long to see from back to front, till it come.

Ik kom er nu dus achter dat het boek helemaal nergens op gebaseerd is! Het is allemaal bedacht! Mijn leven is een leugen.

“When Facebook goes on yet another apology tour, loudly professing that ‘we will try harder’, it’s empty rhetoric is nothing more than the thoughts and prayers of a technology company content to profit from a status quo of inaction.”

Dit verhaal is super interessant, en tegelijkertijd heel angstaanjagend. Het is bizar om te lezen hoe miljoenen mensen gemanipuleerd zijn om steeds extremere gedachten te hebben, en de alt-right beweging zijn gaan volgen. Zeker een aanrader.

Het duurt me veel te lang om dit boek uit te lezen, maar ik zal het doen!

Waarom staan er geen “ “ in dit boek. Weird!

Heel raaaaaaaaar, maar ben benieuwd wat dit boek te zeggen heeft. Gelukkig was het derde hoofdstuk iets minder raar dan het eerste en tweede.

“Only bad religions depend on mysteries, just as bad government depend on secret police. Truth, beauty and goodness are not mysterious, they are the commonest, most obvious, most essential facts of life, like sunlight, air and bread.”

It came to me then, that we were wonderful traveling companion, but in the end no more than lonely lumps of metal in their own separate orbits.

But no building, however tall, no technology, however marvelous, nor even any politics, however democratic, can make a people so free.

Now it suddenly became clear to me that Patti Smith is convinced to the depths of her soul that art and religious awareness are inextricably bound up together. This religious consciousness is not only the secret and essence of all art, but the moral source of the eternal protest against all those tyrannical powers that dehumanize the human world, make the soul soulless and destroy nature.
