This book is really funny on a reread bc originally i was kind of annoyed by all of Control’s weird little masculinisms but now having reread annihilation a bunch and read Borne and knowing vandermeer can actually write women characters whose personalities don’t boil down to Female Anti-Man, Control’s narration reads more like ahhh fuck what do men like. football metaphors? push-ups? the sound of an engine?
