Amazing! It was a privilege to meet the great Tsung Tsai and travel with him & author George Crane from New York to Inner Mongolia. I have nothing but respect for the intensity of the old monk’s desire to re-connect with his old master and to climb to his hermitage on top of Crow Pull Mountain; and for the excellence of George Crane’s prose and storytelling abilities. I would love to see Crane’s travel journals

This far-ranging investigation of Bigfoot takes the reader not only into the obvious bastions of Bigfootery in the western states, but does a deep dive into the search for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker, visits the Kentucky enclave of Bigfooters, takes on a 100 mile traverse of the Appalachian trail with dozens of mind picnics along the way.

Pretty interesting and well written. However, like Andrea Langford in “Trail of the Lost,” he can get redundant in recording all the repetitious deets of a search and the frantic efforts of the family members. The aggregate data and its unlikely source are engaging.

Turgenev, yes, but it turns out that the great master Chekhov leaves me cold—or maybe tepid. I’m slowing down and looking to Tolstoy to re-invigorate my interest in the book. Saunders has interesting commentary.
