Re-reading a favorite from my college years

Winemakers sometimes allow a second bacterial fermentation in the new wine. The baterium L oenos consumes the wine's malic acid and converts it into lactic acid, less strong and sour. This "malolactic" fermentation reduces the tartness of the wine and produces buttery diacetyl. (A relative of this bacterium contributes the same compound to cultured butter itself!) - On Food and Cooking

keeps mentioning Jerome Bruner and John Dewey... and I know exactly what he's talking about!

recommended to me by my prof to answer a question I had about Alan Turing... it's really confusing so far, and I'm not sure if I will be able to finish it...

This guy is hilarious. Not because he's trying to be, but because everything he says is so blunt. My sisters keep looking at me like I'm weird because I keep laughing, every 30 seconds, while I'm reading a book about the pros and cons of grades. :P

Just skipping around and reading essays that catch my eye.

"I reject the idea that learning is passive, that the teacher is the 'one who knows' and the students the 'ones who don't know.'"

reading about student observation. stresses the importance of paying attention to details. scorns labels, like "at-risk" and TAG and LD.

Read his "Myths of Teaching" and I disagree with about half of them. Does this mean this book will be rough reading?
