Pivoting books because I’m challenging myself to finish this one before Friday lol I borrowed this from my cousin in September and I was supposed to read it!!

Something about the way she structures sentences is odd lol I don’t hate it, it’s just…strange. “It wasn’t that Rosie was beautiful, though she was, that is, he thought she was, that is, he felt she was.” Isn’t that strange???

“As a kid…in 2013” the absolute whiplash I got from reading that in the foreword lol I’m only three years older, but still

This is gonna be a slog, I know it. I nodded off probably twenty times in the first four pages. Is the book boring, or am I just hitting the 3pm slump in the workday? Let’s find out.

When I Googled what a Claddagh ring was, I audibly said, “That is the ugliest effing ring I’ve ever seen.”

The second hand cringe embarrassment from this book is real 😭 "Because there are more important or scandalous things in the world than some small-town girl who happens to share DNA with a powerful man, and who never gathered the courage to say I do." I’ve been saying this the whole book!!!

I know this is a really petty thing to be annoyed about but he’ll either quote someone or say something and then there’s a picture immediately following with the same quote.

And I just…don’t get the point? lol it’s like I’m reading a Buzzfeed article with quotes from the chapter coming up. Except it’s immediately after I read that exact line. So strange.

I hate when people try to make nicknames out of names that have no nicknames. 🙄 Sab, Har, and Clee are the worst nicknames I have ever seen for Sabrina, Harriet, and Cleo.

ALSO trying not to be too nitpicky (too late lol) but EYE am Black and I have NEVER seen any Black person fan themselves with their braids. Not saying it’s a microagression butttt kinda.

I’m maybe nitpicking 😅 but in some of the sentences she uses commas when I really feel like a colon should have been used. Seems minor but it kept distracting me.

Also the full descriptions of every character when we first meet them was…interesting lol. We got every character’s hair color, style, and scent as soon as they were introduced. Totally fine! But slightly weird.
