I may get kicked off Goodreads for saying this, but all I can think of while reading this is Monty Python and the Holy Grail...

Not a good start. Trying to avoid abandoning 2 pages into the 15 page introduction. I really don't need someone to tell me all the intricacies and comparisons to Melville and Shakespear. The author of the introduction is way too enamored with this book!

This is delightful! Freckles is quite the young man and I am anxious to see where this goes!
It helps that I am reading a copy from 1904, yellowed pages and all!

Despite having slogged through this (for a number of reasons!) this has been an interesting read. A 19th century psychological thriller - OK, maybe a psychological adventure. Interesting insights into the Russian culture at the time and a study of human nature separated from a hope in Christ...

I decided to go through the stacks of old books I have collected over the years and either read or discard! This is the first of 20-ish books that should take me through 2025.

Reading a copy of Longfellow's poems that belonged to my grandfather as a child, with an inscription from his grandmother in 1903. It is one of those books that feels so good to hold!

I love old science fiction. It is interesting to see the scientific knowledge of the time blended with theory and speculation. H G Wells was one of the best!

Not enamored by the reader of this audiobook! I am also realizing how often I go back and read sections that I can't realistically do while I am driving.

So far, so good. A good.primer on AI technology written at a mid-tech level so I can follow! Written in a conversational manner, with good examples of AI's progress and shortcomings when compared to human reasoning and abilities.

I haven't read a page, but the dedication reads 'To "IAM", who is more extraordinary than all things imaginable. His awesomeness is dimly but wonderfully illuminated by the intriguing mysteries of math, science, and artificial intelligence. And for some inexplicable reason, he loves and sacrificed for me.'
Encouraging!
