Loving this infinitely more than the first book. Probably bc Osric is hilarious when in love

There is some shocking stuff in this book.

“Before you know it real life creeps back in. Elizabeth doesn’t want real life to creep back in because the one thing Elizabeth knows about real life is that Steven is not in it”

Oof. The truth to this sentence is so real. Loss makes real life feel like a mirage or weird lucid dream. It can’t be the truth.

Sometimes it’s so difficult following along with whose POV we are in

“Are we inside the Codex? An alternate dimension of some kind?”
His eyes narrowed. “So you do know your thaumaturgical theory.”
Elisabeth decided not to tell him that she simply read a lot of novels.
