this fiction throws a lot at you as the reader. had me juggling inner arguments on the controversial subject matters. the gender reversed “yellow fever”: an australian shame of a generation past. a wife physically has sex outside her marriage and keeping it secret. the ideas on love. so much going on here. i love the geographical and specific mise en scene.

For our sons this is so important: p167: as mums we find ourselves doing more home duties for our sons than daughters. Glennon addresses this by teaching her son “I have accidentally taught you that achieving out there is more important than serving your family in here…if you are not showing respect to the people inside your home. If you don’t get that right, nothing you do out there will matter…” YES!

I can’t agree that all people are “forced” into a cup. My freedom is heterosexuality. I don’t want other ways. I know in my bones I don’t want to marry a woman. I don’t believe this is due to religion. Perhaps biology? Survival of a species? I wonder if Glennon’s answer to Joanne would be the same today? We are born with a biological gender. Females can birth, males can not. We are different.

Have purchased following reading chapters 1 & 2 “kindle sample”. Feeling kinship with this story. Intrigued to hear more. Even a little jealous at her having been claimed by the grandparent. Excited to see we share name & Country.
