Exposition is a really addictive drug. Apparently.

I'm not enjoying this, for the same reason that I don't enjoy listening to teenage boys talk to each other. They sound boring and dumb, and it fills me with a shameful, secret dread that I was equally boring and dumb at their age.

Flying by fast and furious so far.

It's taking me forever to work through this. It's quite dense but fascinating. I've been so busy. Sigh.

I really got my money's worth with this one. Unfortunately I got it free. So, well, yeah. When the main character's expression was "becoming aluminum," I kinda checked out and started thinking about more interesting things, like getting vaccinated or choking on a Cheerio. Am I dumb enough to finish this? You'll have to wait and see.

Lovely and voluptuous prose. I'm getting a very strong vibe that this book is about the ride rather than the destination. But we shall see--and of course that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The overhead of following the huge cast of characters is taking its toll on the narrative at this point. Plus there are a bunch of weird typos ("their" instead of "there" and quotes attributed to characters who aren't actually in the group currently being followed).
