ohhh my god i’m so furious i was loving this book, eating it up, and then we gotta go talk in detail about boys getting hard and imagining women as objects and even turning other beautiful things into objects that they want to bang?!! and not written like it’s a bad thing?! like my god is there no escape from men being gross and horny and gross and evil! can’t even enjoy a book written by a woman! fed up today!

i think the kids are sweet but referring to anne as “the doctor’s wife”/“the kids’ mother” the whole time is actually driving me crazy. she’s always been anne. use her name. and i want to hear more about her, not susan (as cool as she is, this book is not called susan of ingleside).

and the audiobook is a SLOG. no offense to the reader but this was NOT your career my love

holy shit this man is a beautiful writer. some of his sentences genuinely make me hold the book more tenderly in my hands. it’s half poetry and half narrative (and i don’t usually like poetry!!!) and it’s making my heart melt. also love love loveee the use of repetitive refrains in and across chapters (especially the first)

this woman’s brain is so twisted. anyway it was pretty easy to track with until now but just got confusing

bruhhh bad cops!!! just trying to read my silly little thriller and suddenly there’s a cop destroying evidence of violence against a civilian🙄like this is my escape let me forget

ending the glen canyon expedition with the signpost was so unsatisfying and ugly. well illustrated. the man writes well.

quick read. otherwise idk that i would stick with it. i wanted a good thriller but this is kinda boring, the writing is basic and the dialogue is choppy and unnatural, and i don’t care about the character at all. better be a good twist.
