I am listening on Audible. It's not a bad collection, though I was wondering if it was an AI narrator. It's not, I looked it up, but there are some odd cadences and pronunciations that get a little distracting sometimes. Both narrators have an excellent reputation, so I am sure it is me.

Plugging away at this one. I'm anxious to see where it lands.

Okay, so I've been wondering about the narrator. It's not bad, but it's been bothering me. I looked. It's a virtual voice and it feels like it. The timing is off and some of the words are pronounced strangely. I think that would kill for some people. But... I'm keeping up with it. And I totally get why one would choose to try it.

Still enjoying the book.

My one comment so far is the treatment of slave girls is less than progressive, which is a really odd comment to come from the likes of me.

It's an interesting magic system. The story has taken a little bit to get rolling, but I was reading on the plane, so had plenty of time to get invested. I think I'll keep going.

Geez that poor girl. Shiloh's having a rough go of it. And I feel like Fraise is setting up a ship with Jonah that Miles can't be mad about because he's a dunce, or a child.

Ooh, the story turns. This has all be very well handled. I'm really liking this story.

This is a great story.

Definitely not for your preteen. Very well written. I'm totally hooked.

Continues to be really good. She reminds me of Dan Wells, but with a little different flavor. This is only YA because the protagonist is 16.

Fraise calls this a YA novel, but it opens with abuse and murder. The writing is plain, but captivating. I was instantly hooked and I am certain I am going to enjoy this book. Very well done open.
