Holy. So good. Spoiled by the writing. Heavy subject matter but the way it is written makes me feel delicate but swaddled.

This may be because the writing in A Little Life is so fantastic and comparison is the thief of joy, but I find the writing in this to be so heavy handed. And Casey Han is just a character I don’t understand at all, who weirdly feels entirely performative. Perhaps pride is the one thing i’ve never quite understood in anybody

Debating if I should finish this… disturbing and I am not sure to what ends. The author is not necessarily someone I hope to emulate or whose judgement i understand, and the character he has created is unsettling. Give thoughts, im chugging away at it still but I wonder what the purpose of completing a novel based on a character who’s thinking disgusts me

unrelentingly horrifying book, what god would allow for a world like this

lucy snowe listens and thinks and cares and watches and supports as the man she had utterly loved her whole life falls again into love with another ??? screaming screaming screaming she is too kind and gentle and compassionate and she just isn’t dashing and attention grabbing but she’s wonderful
