Just finished part 1.

Currently I am so engaged in this book, I am listening to the audiobook at this moment so perhaps that’s why. But the character motivations and the story have logical flow. This definitely seems inspired by a article I seen recently about a Thai woman committing the same fraud tho. I am a bit wary since the protagonist is speaking to a detective so I am wondering if the ending is already dictated as such.

Can’t help but feel that the main character is written in such a way (as someone on the spectrum) so that the author has a easy way of convincing readers that someone would be able to tricked so easily into carrying the deeds of Rodney. And frankly to me that’s lazy writing. This book is seeking more and more to me like a middle grade fiction book with how much it hand holds it readers.

The writing is rather juvenile at first and rather jarring especially since. I was expecting a more serious thriller. The main character on the other hand leaves much more to be desired, at times it feels like the character is purposely written such a way so that the writer is able to hand hold the reader through the mystery even if the mystery itself is rather unremarkable. However this is still a fun read so far.

The writing so far is rather mixed for me so far the story itself at a foundational level is fantastic. I am thoroughly engaged from start to end, extra brownie points to the way the author describes. Most memorable for me thus far is the drunken fight sequence, modelled after the drunken kung fu style. But the current depiction of shimin as an idealistic love interest, painting all his flaws positively is 😐
