This book whips. You never could guess what's gonna happen next

The background noise is insanely distracting and completely unnecessary. Repetitive blaster fire over 10 minutes of dialogue, beeping and booping while a character internally schemes, birds chirping and waves crashing during a meeting of freedom fighters, and most egregious of all; non-stop wind wooshing whenever any scene is on a ship of any kind.

🚨THE SANDERLANCHE HAS BEGUN🚨

Sci-fi movies don't have main character aliens and fantasy races all look like humans for a reason. NO ONE CARES ABOUT THEM. It's the strangest phenomenon. Whenever a Singer/Parshendi character takes the stage for the chapter, I completely zone out. I could not be bothered to care what is going on with them in the slightest.

Shallan's story in this book is the highlight - hence the cover art. Gimme more of that.

So good to be excited about a book again. This series is so great, I almost want to start over. It feels like taking a nap on the couch with one of those edge-tied fleece blankets.

So far so good. The main character is a bit of a Gary stu, we have a royalty in hiding trope, classic fantasy academy trope, unexplainable but interesting superpower adjacent technology trope, All carried on the back of the ancient Roman culture influences.
