Just finished Big Two-Hearted River: Part 1. My most recent annotation: “I’m growing angry at how good this is.”

Gal on the bus asked me if I liked it bc she’d read it in high school and hated it! I had to tell her I’m loving it so far. Love the way this guy writes the NOLA dialects

I hate the narrator so far, and I can’t tell yet if that’s the point!

If James Joyce has zero fans, I’m dead.

You know, I just started this book, and already I've realized something that didn't come to mind when reading the first book and am questioning it. Why is Angeline Fowl the one who had to go catatonic when her husband went missing. I understand as a plot device we needed zero parental figures for the first book--hence, dad missing, mom a ghost of herself. HOWEVER. The adventurer could've been the wife/mom and the non

Spenser’s personification of the seven deadly sins is wonderfully unsettling. Much more affective than that of, say, the Romance of the Rose

Tried to do percentages based on the number of cantos (80) but soon remembered there was much more of this book than simply the work itself. And I did read that. So, 3.75% of the poem, as I am in I.iii, and ~7% of the whole thing. Probably. Not gonna do percentages for future updates though because it shan’t be rewarding to be pedantic here.
