Barnes & Noble’s Book of the Year … let’s see if it lives up to the hype!

Historical fiction. Not very good but covers an era in Russian history that I never learned about in school. So I’m googling a lot to learn about the people & events dramatized in the book.

Love it so far. A crime is at the heart of the story & sets its two main protagonists ~ best friends as kids ~ on widely divergent lives. Heartbreaking yet hopeful so far … about halfway through & curious to see where this goes as it’s not a whodunit in the traditional sense.
