Didn't know Anne Rice was so horny in such a disturbed way .

Dude she's 15. Okay 115 but 100 years doesn't count if she's asleep??? That is effectively a 15 year old

Likely not reading past book 1. At this point it's more of an anthropological read than personal enjoyment

All of this seems decently rigorous scientifically and then... "being 5 lbs underweight is more dangerous than being 70 lbs overweight." Source? Some cardiologist she dated.

I can appreciate the message of self-acceptance throughout, but really???? You're a researcher. Do better to check your confirmation bias.

How many children had this happened to? How many children were like me, floating like plankton in the wide ocean? I thought how tenuous the links were between mother and children, between friends, family, things you think are eternal. Everything could be lost, more easily than anyone could imagine.

the feminine urge to turn yourself off and back on again

"I could feel the certainty of a reality leeching out of me like calcium from a bone. I was starving my mind into obliqueness. I felt less and less. Words came and I spoke them in my head, then nestled in on tue sound of them, got lost in the music"

I took Robert Wright's Buddhism and Modern Psychology class from Princeton on Coursera and it was great but??? I was not expecting this book to be SO dense??? I was expecting a little philosophival essay in a relaxed tone but this is incredibly research-heavy.

I was looking for a break from neuroscience nonfiction and I failed miserably

Secular Buddhism analyzed through a neuroscientific and evolutionary biology lens. This hits like every kind of nerdiness I embody.

Also why th does goodreads say this book is 11 pages long

"We should not, then, be hesitant about challenging man with a potential meaning for him to fulfill. It is only thus that we evoke his will to meaning (...) What man needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for a worthwhile goal, a freely chosen task"

"Sometimes the frustrated will to meaning is vicariously compensated for by a will to power (...), the will to money"
