The new guards leader, Scythe Goddard, is advocating for less regulation of scythe matters, even to the extent of no limits on gleanings at all.

Describes that because there is no crime in their world, they do not have precedents that establish the practice of being told your right when arrested and the right to an attorney that was established through the constitution, Miranda v Arizona, and Gideon v Wainwright. It also says that they does not really have the right to a fair trial because it’s is scythe matters and the High Blade decides.

The old guard and new guard are like the political parties that we have in our governmental system. The old guard favors tradition and a stricter adherence to the commandments and other guiding principles, while the new guard wants to bring about change and have a looser interpretation of the commandments so that they may have more opportunity and freedom in their work. There are also independents.

The greatest accomplishment was “ending government.” Compare and contrast the thunderhead to our modern government using AP Gov principles. Connects to the Supreme Court justices using precedents or various ways of interpreting the constitution in their cases as they are reviewing the same or similar laws/scenarios but from various perspectives as required with the changing times and prevailing ideology of the justices change. Although the times does not change in scythedom, but the ideology about it could.

I genuinely don’t understand why or how he cares so much for Synali, who’s been nothing but evil, but how he’s constantly checking up on her and protecting her is sweet.

I understand why she’s evil but I don’t understand why he’s so nice to her… she is constantly dodging him and his attempts to help her. Insulting him and stuff…

I think that that scythe at Citras house was just trying to comfort her with the idea that she had some control in the situation, however, the next scythe that we encounter with Roman shows that they do not. They are above the law and use mathematical statistics to determine who will die…no one has any control but the scythes and still somehow they hated Roman.
