45% is about where it gets to the best stuff. This reading session their description of visiting London and Europe after World War II was sobering.

I could see myself reading the title story for fun like a bed time story.

Read the first two, and so far charmed. The narration fits well.

For bookclub on the 28th

I was expecting rainforests, orangutans and food science. I got a healthy dose of imperialism/colonialism is now capitalism and the root of all evil. I did not realize how palm oil was tied to so much enslavement, rape, genocide and general devastation of communities.

How can you know you see colors the same as everybody else?- Yes!! The question of my life!! That and taste buddy. I am just guessing what bitter is.

For Borderlands book club

Another silly book! Love it.

I am not sure I really like this book. It is darker than I expected, but there's something else I am not enjoying... Something about the set up that just seems like it can't be resolved.

Wow. we start with some violence. I was not ready for this level of brutality.

Didn't realize it was YA. But realized while reading it. I am so dumb.

I don't know what this book is about and I've read 28% of it.

She's not gonna grow up, is she? I am not into this "strong" female character. Her motivations are just very plain. She wants to fight because [she wasn't allowed? it's what the people with power do? something?] She is also highly manipulative, which could be cool but is also simply just being self-serving. Being selfish is ok, we all are (tho more conflicted?), but I was expecting more commentary on systemic issues.

I have to keep reminding myself that Kaikeyi is still 16 and 16 year olds have a lot to learn. But, I am not hopeful for the rest of the book ...

Reread for book club. The introduction of 1980s science capitalism is interesting from a 2020 perspective.

Still don't know how we get free, but very interesting to get some history and experiences. Just wish it was more of the mundane action and realities. :) Ideas are great, but what is the work
