*Bought* this after seeing a review in the New York Times. Couldn't _read_ the review, but it seemed interesting. It reminds me a bit of how Amberlough made me wonder how much of it was a parallel for the Weimar Republic. Might even read them next, particularly if I can finish Andor first and compare.

Getting similar feels to The Magician series. I mean, smart college age kids who work out magic and travel to alternate worlds. Particularly as you get into the last book, Magician’s Land and it starts grappling with loss, of both people and youth.

OTOH, the single greatest scene in the entire 14 books series - Rand telling his joke to the Maidens.

Bogging down a bit setting up the army to threaten Samuel. So much happens in this book IIRC and I just want to get to it

I had to go back and re-read Traitor and Monster, because I was lost again. I remember having the same issue with Monster; I enjoyed it even more this time through because I was still feeling the feels from Traitor.

This is appallingly good, so much so that perhaps a crossroads was involved.

I hadn’t even dared to hope for that as a reveal. 😭

I have no idea what is happening. Not in a bad way. It's all a bit of a brainfuck, which I assume is completely intentional. I am very much looking forward to the Reveal.

Just reached the meeting in the Denisovan Embassy with the descriptions of Ash and Lowbeer’s clothing affectations, and it occurs that the post-Jackpot scenes are sometimes a bit like a less surreal version of Moorcock’s Dancers at the End of Time.

I wonder what it would be like to read this without the footnotes, and then re-read - even just a summary - accompanied by the footnotes. Does it change how you appreciate the unreliable narrator aspect?

And then maybe a third time with someone else rebutting her footnotes.

So finally the identity of the footnotes starts to take shape.

I was kind of getting grumpy and impatient with this. I think part of it is because I'm still mad Previous Chant didn't catch a spear.

I wasn’t expecting the element of KJ Parker, in that one outsider walks into a society and proceeds to blow it up half accidentally, half via deliberate plan.
