The hook is great.
After that it becomes very much skimmable.
Example: a little over a page on protagonist's expository meandering thoughts against an action device of out the garbage.
Another thing; Cook is/was a real life doctor/surgeon. Accordingly, the book is rife with highly technical medical terminology {procedures, medicines, surgical tools, etc.} which, for the most part, aren't explained/defined.

It's picking up, now that we're headed to the exciting denouement.

Ludlum slammed the brakes on this book when he brought on the romance trope.
Very much skim-worthy for about 15% of the book so far.

Something about Ludlum's style misses for me, can't put my finger on it = had same problem with 1st Bourne, which I DNF'ed {perhaps wrong thing to do, because this one's coming into its own}.
Expository, drifts around too much, vague references to aspects that previously happened = gotta' keep up pretty good attention to details about things , as well as maintaining a good memory, or ya' miss stuff.
Holding interest.

Although there have been twists and turns, still think I have this figured out.

So, we have tangents like med school fun with cadavers that have nothing to do with the story.
We have a plot advancements that don't advance the plot, just move us to the next person who knows nothing about what the protagonist seeks to find other than the next person who knows nothing about...

Suspect how this'll turn out, but we'll see.

Still enjoying it, it's still holding interest as we come into the climax.

Satire = typical Vonnegut.

Interesting history of Halloween coupled with the ways different cultures have celebrated it {if that's the right word} through time.

A little repetitive

Dean adds a little bloat and exposition on his way to the climax.

A little bloat, some overly descriptive narrative, but it's holding interest.

Slightly expository, but holding interest. Surprising is Dean's method of making a talking dog- believable.

Skim, baby, skim!
First miss on a prediction though.

Although the plotline continues to hold interest, predictability not only continues, it is expected.
Particularly the now introduced romance trope.
The 2nd 25% of the book is more skimmable than the 1st 25%.
Accordingly, most of what is being skimmed is bloat, which has become more dominant.
Strongly suspect the reason for this is because the author was aware, from his original sketches, this was to be serialized.

Acceptable plotline, predictable however.
Overly descriptive, making it very much skimmable.

Good prose & all, but is slightly confusing at times.
