I read this book soon after it came out in 1998. I originally borrowed it for 15 days and had to return it at the end of the read. I wanted to re-read the book so now have my own copy. It includes references to one of the characters in my own book - Christian Women in Turkey - so I look forward to a second, more leisurely read through of this fascinating book.

This is a fascinating book. In 1876 Frederick Gustavus Burnaby set off from Constantinople - today's Istanbul - to travel to Eastern Turkey. This book describes his journey, the encounters he has on the way. An interesting book for any Turcophile!

This is a book I re-read every year. An intriguing Advent book. Better than any Advent calendar.

Re-reading because it's Advent once again! A fascinating book that never ceases to amaze!
