This book demands a lot of committment up front (keeping track of a dostoyevsky-ish giant cast of characters and their family drama) but it comes so highly recommended that i want to believe the investment is worth it!

Godpilled and lovemaxxing joycel

Speaking as someone who has almost exclusively been listening to Sade this summer I can confidently say she must have read Anaïs Nin

Grabbed this off the shelf at the library without realizing it was part of a series but i get the feeling it’s also ok as a standalone?

Sick Freak Summer Reading continues!

tiny plush hedgehog in a tshirt that says KILL YOUR LOCAL PEDOPHILE!!!

Mixtape for the first half of this book: Alien Observer by Grouper, Mary by BCNR, Expectations by Belle and Sebastian— and that’s how you know i’m loving it so far!

Made in a lab for fans of Millhauser’s stories about people getting carried away by an idea, a charismatic leader, etc- also for fans of Millhauser’s stories about performers and sideshows…. deeply millhausercoded in general actually!

The most common critique i’ve seen of this book so far is “make this girl EDIT her purple run on sentences” and i could not disagree more. Sooo obvious katherine dunn edited on the sentence level like a poet and equally obvious she was getting like ecstatic divine inspiration 24/7. LET HER COOK!!

no need to unpack my lifelong fascination with circus freak media shh it’s ok

Got a higher ed job during the summer? no work to do, can’t bring a physical book? need an ebook that’s dense and confusing enough to make me wish i was working? project gutenberg crime and punishment just what the dr ordered!

Ishiguromaxxing continues! The first time i read this it was summer reading for a high school class and it’s been interesting to revisit it many years later :)

“It’s not that I want a child. I don’t want them, I don’t want to have them. I want to meet them. My child. I want to meet my child and live with them. But who is it I want to meet?”
This book found me at a very GRRRRGHFHFHD time in my life

Wicked funny, terminally online, probably cancelable, absolutely filthy, smart and readable and stupid, i can’t say i recommend it so far but i can say i am loving it

Just finished Lost Lambs which i’ve seen multiple people call “zoomer The Corrections”. My most Franzenpilled friend is crashing on the couch til wednesday. The time is NOW

I can tell when she’s stringing together one-liners she wrote in her notes app bc i have the same one-liners folder in my notes app. I can tell when she’s trying to write a Wes Anderson movie bc i would also love to write a Wes Anderson movie. This irritates me and also fills me with joy. I will be tearing through this book and scoffing at its amateurishness knowing full well i would not do any better. Love hate!

Imagine my shock when i realized that book i kept hearing about was about AN ENGLISH MAJOR AT MIZZOU???

Spending this easter with one of the greatest Christian writers to ever do it!!😮‍💨

Steven my boy you’ve done it again!

“once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. but that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.” and he called this in 1965 mind you

got this copy of a book from my buddy who used to teach english. i'm 2/3 the way through and he's annotated one single word in the whole thing and that is "phony", written in the margins and underlined

another comfort reread! my love for this book could kill a victorian orphan (sorry pip)

ah shit, here we go again. infinitely rereadable emotional support murder book how i love you

today’s combo for the craziest nap of my life: an edible + a fever + reading the steinbeck nazi book in bed

reading this in my dead quiet office and wishing i was in the woods. LET ME OUT !!!
