Mechanics on the reread were quite reasonable. I remembered a lot of it, but it was certainly a joy to read the GM section in particular. Such great advice, even outside of the Blades in the Dark ruleset itself.

Excellent book so far. Also, another episode of "hey, Christianity... you kinda weasled yourself into a largely egalitarian society and reworked it to subjugate women before both religion and the law."

For real. Irish women could divorce, keep their assets, pay honor price to bail out their husbands, were warriors, TRAINED warriors, and were deeply important to the artistic and cultural fabric. Thanks, Patrick.

That letter on Atwood (primarily Handmaid's Tale) was my favorite yet.

Pretty good read. The debates she had with her classmate about Rand were cool, even though that person sounds outright reprehensible. It was cool to watch an Iranian-American student and a conservative debate amicably. Now we're on to Grossman, Ackerman, and Khoury.

I'm up to the final words of Josephus's telling of Jerusalem's fall to Titus. It's quite interesting. Very informed author. I wish it was told with more context, however - as someone who doesn't know much about 600 BCE - 100 CE history, I frequently am blindsided by the rise and fall of empires that aren't mentioned until they briefly interact with the Hasmonean / Herodian dynasties of the Jewish world.

I'm loving the sheer audacity of the worldbuilding in this book, but holy hell do I wish it was organized by zone a bit more... hopping around geographically on the tower is a lot.

Depression goes into happiness... and then the happiness gets literally mauled by a black bear on screen.

Didn't expect that.

Beautiful twist though! Very curious to see where this is going.

The nausea and disgust one experiences from reading this tome is frequently broken up with boring (albeit depressing) bureaucratic drama and factoids about the broken child welfare system. It's a rollercoaster, but one between utter revulsion and depressing sadness/boredom.
