oh my god I forget how terrible McCarthy reads. I like the author’s ideas but his implementation is what turns me off. It’s the same critiques, not enough punctuation, too many run on sentences, using a $10 phrase to describe a .10¢ picture - sometimes it feels like McCarthy just picks words out and makes them all fit into a sentence instead of thinking of the sentence then finding the words. he’s losing me

I don’t find the book enjoyable or well written yet, maybe I won’t at all. It just may not be my style, i don’t particularly like the way thoughts are jotted down and not explicitly fleshed out, just jotted out more if that makes sense

“everyone at school hated me because i was pretty” that sentence is the epitome of the main character, no one cares about your looks that’s not why people dont like people, people just dont like shitty people. god she’s insufferable

wth is this girl talking about “Reva’s dad looks like a child molester” where did that come from? I really hate the main character, so damn vain and elitist, just shitting on Reva’s hometown, home, family - just a terrible person who doesn’t appreciate their privileges, only focuses on their problems which mainly revolve around Trevor, seriously grow up

one of my favorite things to do in the mornings lately has been to make my coffee, sit down at my new chair, and read some bukowski. his highs are high and the problematic stuff he writes you just skip over because his greats are truly great. that’s why funerals are so sad is my favorite through the first quarter of the book.

lol i can hear ldr singing ‘you’re just a man it’s just what you do’ as i read the author’s description of Trevor thinking damn that’s literally me; someday i’ll be that guy with the high rise apartment filled with expensive furniture multiple gfs have helped pick. I like cocaine &cheap beer &whiskey too. I play the acoustic guitar badly too. I really do this piece of shit shit 💪🏽🤦🏽‍♂️

i couldnt quite think of what this book has been full of but i just realized the words i’m looking for are aphorisms & relatable remarks, this book is full of them. e.g. from the last chapter ‘there is nothing like puking with somebody to make you into old friends.’

juicy turn of events just now in the last chapter, “The first and rightful lover”. Mitya’s favor with Grushenka has flipped, she no longer sees her first love in the same light - Mitya charging the tall bodyguard didnt hurt either, seeing him take charge must’ve been a sight to see considering how meek and weak Grushenka viewed Mitya

ch 13 superb writing on self-reflection and awareness of the moment by Robert Jordan. Might be my favorite chapter so far

I fear ending up in a marriage like Guy and Mildred - not knowing how we met, repeating the same conversations over and over, captivated and alone with my thoughts, never really talking with one another and sharing those thoughts, having actual discussions, instead only talking to each other. it’s a bleak love.

I’m starting to get Vonnegut. feel like there’s no in between, you either think of his writing as pretty meh (which i did for slaughter house five) or you appreciate the quirkiness of it all, the absurdity of it. He’s grown on me, or maybe i just prefer this book more. maybe no matter the order i read the two books in i’d always prefer the latter, that seems like a very me thing to do.
