Interesting to see heroes disappearing at such a rapid pace already.

Starting with the running man and it’s so fitting that it takes place in 2025. Hopefully it’s not too similar to the real world, but knowing king, it will be.

I am fueled entirely by white guilt.

Solomon’s intelligence cannot go understated.

It’s good to be back on the train of human depravity.

Solomon’s asides about the planting of and harvesting of crops is the only peace to be found in this novel.

Solomon just spent 8 pages describing the process of planting, cultivating, and replanting cotton and corn. I know this probably means he’s about to describe an atrocity he endured in the next chapter, but it’s small, descriptive moments like that which are so interesting.

Even the “kind” individuals that Solomon encounters are only that way because they think it will make their slaves more obedient. Beyond dehumanizing.

So vindicating to see Solomon stand up for himself but also so troubling to watch him realize that his own morality has been corrupted.

Surely I won’t have horrible dreams tonight after reading about a boy torn from his mother despite her constant pleas.

Beyond gut-wrenching to read of Solomon’s realization of what was happening to him. Surely stuff like this isn’t happening today…

Something inside me told me that there might be a poignant connection to be made between what we are currently seeing in the world (very close to home) and what happened to a man ripped from his life and thrust into the worst conditions imaginable.

Telemachus has successfully stopped men from sleeping with his mom…for now.

Now this is what I call a solid translation.
