So many wow moments, even though I’ve understood the gist of this book for about 20 years. Audiobook ftw!

Ah-may-zing. I love this series so much I’ll probably read them again from the beginning of The Edge series. What a ride, though. It starts with apple cake and ends in a miracle- so many questions answered but now I have so many more! Cannot wait for the next installment- of any Ilona Andrews books. Honestly, these authors blow me away.

Such an important story! The Washingtons were supposed to be “good masters”, and they were still horrible, abusive and dismissive of their enslaved servants’ humanity. The concepts of “dower slaves” and hereditary chattel slavery - that Ona’s northern-born children could be legally captured and enslaved- ugh!

DNF. So bad. Lots of name dropping, not enough plot development.

Ok. Engaging, clunky at first, but humorous and relatable fantasy “romance.”

So good. Well written for children, considering the sobering, potentially traumatic topic. This was recommended instead of Little House on the Prairie, which I read as a child. We’re reading it with our own ten-year-old, and I would recommend it to anyone.

"Happiness is not a product of knowledge but a product of wisdom." How do you make a story about an old man dying of starvation in Siberia into a book about happiness? It is incredible. This book is transformative and just what I need right now.

Starting over. I am in a much different place now. I am reading with fresh perspective so I will start my list as I read from here out, instead of listing every book I've ever laid hands on.
