So far, great writing....but some of the narratives are forced and don't feel organic or natural.

Adequate story....not the best execution..

Two hours left and thinking of dnf'ing. Who edited this book?? Audiobook narrators, especially the male, are not doing the book any favors.

Ugh. Audio narrator is awful.

Ugh. This poor kid. Of course she's haunted, her awful parents constantly trauma dump on her. Gross.

Oof. Cannot wait to finish this book. It's been a slog to get through. I've been looking forward to reading a retelling of Huck Finn from the pov of one of my favorite characters, but have been horribly disappointed. Sad.

Have to borrow the book because I'm not loving this narrator. Temporary dnf.

Oof. So far, really not enjoying the divisive jabs against men, small towns, boys, religion, traditions, etc. I'm usually a huge CJ Tudor fan, but this isn't like her regular writing and feels so forced and trying too hard to make societal comparisons. Also, I know CJ Tudor is English, but if writing American characters, they really shouldn't be using English slang. So close to DNF'ing.

Giving this one another chance since I don't think I was in the right mindspace the first time around.

Putting on hold because Julia Heaberlin's book is out Thursday and I HAVE to read it. But also really enjoying The Nightingale. Looking forward to picking back up after The Night Will Find You.

Self-absorbed and annoying Mary Sue character who has a very messes up logic about why her life is the way it is. Also, a lot of repetitive lines and words used throughout...there's only one storyline keeping me from DNF'ing.

Ugh...the self-absorbed women in this book are cringe-worthy.

Eh... so sloooooow. And annoyed that every single time a character is introduced, we're bluntly told their skin color. 😒 There are better ways to describe characters than, "X, who had white/black/brown skin, blah blah blah."

There are like a million characters to keep track of, and I'm lost. With each new Chapter, "Leland was watching..."

Me: Who??

I mean, it's like with every chapter. I've come close to dnf'ing, but I love Alex North and am trying hard to trust he's taking me somewhere good...

Only a few chapters in, but you know that joyful feeling you get in your gut when reading a book you know could be 5 stars? Yep...all those feels so far.

Ugh...so much telling so far and tiresome narrative rubbish...men suck and noting people are from different countries is racist. 🙄 Hoping this picks up soon...
