It's still weird and I'm still eating it up.

Reading this with my brain feeling like squeezed mush was really fitting for the story.

Please don't see my reading this book as an endorsement of its author. I'm passingly aware of Mustaine's history of deplorable comments but I was never much of a Megadeth fan (I know surprising for a metalhead). I just like memoirs, especially the ones about cancer.

Well that escalated quickly!

Still eating it up even if the punctuation is sending me (it's an old PDF ARC so it might just be the change in font size and font that's messing with the format).

I'm really enjoying this one so far, there's a stylized choppiness to it that I'm really digging.

This is so well done. It's the kind of story I don't normally care all that much for but it's so well executed, I'm in love.

I'm enjoying the writing style a lot,

It's an oddly soothing read while we're being whipped into a panic about the promise that AI could kill us all in the next decade,

Jeffery knows how to write about grief.

-1 point for gratuitous HP reference

I'm bored. So bored.

This book is stressing me out! It's been a long time since a zombie novel has had me stressed but there's something so heavy and ominous about this one,

Not sure where this is going but I'm not mad about it.

I struggle to make myself read this book.

There's no plot here, there isn't much of a story either. It's the rumination of a young suicidal woman trying to convince herself her affair with a mediocre married man is good actually. The writing wants to be pretty and sometimes it is but it's not enough...

Ugh, gratuitous Harry Potter reference, can we not?

It does get better, Dora is significantly less exhausting to deal with now.

i HATE the main character. Other reviewers have described her as caustic, that's not the problem, the problem is how she seems to be intentionally making things worse.

Still eating it up but every time I pick it up the phone rings or someone wants to talk to me, starting to think it's a little cursed.

Not sure where this is going but I'm enjoying the ride!

This is not great. The story is interesting but the writing style is awful. The verb tenses are often wacky, the way people speak is an odd mix of French from France, international French and Québécois French in a way that's not nearly as fun as one would think, it's like it's trying to be frol everywhere so it ends up being from nowhere. I already know I'm yeeting it in tbe donation bin as soon as possible.

The author is funny but these essays lack a little meat
