ughhhhhhh why do I get myself into these situations where the series isn't done being published this is going to be the end of me

I'd like to brag that I told my husband I really wanted to read this book (but I've only got it in audiobook format, and I am not built in such a way to just listen without also having a Task) and he went and bought it for me :,)

this is giving some insane Red Rising vibes and I'm a big fan!!! (It's the 17 yr old angry boy at the bottom of the food chain in a Romanesque setting who is going to a school for the elite children of the government people) but I might actually like the setting of this one more 👀 I will make an official announcement when I finish the book- we just got to school

i can't decide if I actually want to read this whole series right now or if just reading The Selection scratched the itch. ... I can't remember what the rebels are actually doing and I know that gets revealed but I can't remember if it's this book or the next one 🫠

it's not getting better 🫩 but I'm determined to finish it

half of this book is really good and half is SO SLOW

I have been gripped with anxiety since the halfway point and it is not abating good gravy

this feels like the natural next book to read after finishing Lonesome Dove

also this book is so freaking good. It's been a minute since I've read something so well woven together (mistborn)! there have been so many details that are in the first book that are finally starting to make sense in the third. UGH

if my bedtime wasn't 9 pm you best believe I'd be finishing this in one day

I'm hoping this takes a turn at some point and goes somewhere uplifting but I'm feeling less optimistic about that every step we take

this is making me want to re-read the way of kings, and I need to resist that urge

I'm returning to Dune at work because I've been informed my other audiobook is going to make me cry and I want to save that for the comfort of my car

I'm clinging to this by a thread.

the thread is this: Ty will want me to finish it, and I don't like giving up.

I get that this nine year old child is prescient but someone explain to me why he's hitting on this woman who is essentially his great aunt.

in my own mental commentary, unironically just referred to a group of people as "unwashed heathens" and then realized after that I only did that because that is how Emma refers to her cousin.

read in a British accent:
I can feel my vocabulary expanding with every page. I haven't stopped talking to myself in an English accent all afternoon. I just told myself I was clothed and adorned but not yet shod. (i.e. wearing my outfit and jewelry but not my shoes yet)

I'm really enjoying this book, but the content is definitely a little bit questionable. I think I'm going to spend some time looking into it a bit more to decide if I want to continue reading this.

I am LOVING the characters, how it's written, and each plot point feels like a natural progression of the book. It's a stellar book. I just am not sure if it's going to be good and pleasing and perfect for me.

I'm really enjoying this on a re-read, moving from book to audiobook with the addition of having seen the movies in between. I feel like my comprehension has been expanded (like Paul in the desert ;)

this is SO reminiscent of the Wheel of Time it's awesome

I'm thinking that middle school me missed out! I passed by this book often at the library, and I would've loved it. (I am currently enjoying it quite thoroughly)

I'm growing obsessed with this book. I love Aerin. I love her horse. My future children WILL have this read to them as a bedtime story I'm almost positive.

this is really good so far - the action scenes are very gripping
