So far I'm liking
- how it's half hard-boiled detective story and half Alien
- the focus on working-class people who aren't big decision makers
- the dinginess of the scifi future
- non-clumsy exposition

I'm having trouble with how shocked the protagonist is that her military school would lie to her. It's literally military school my dude 😭

The chapter epigraphs read very, very unrealistically -- more like summaries than excerpts
