I kinda can’t stand this

The writing style oscillates between total dogshit, millennial sex fiend ponderings, and James Joyce style stream of consciousness passages. What is this

“Under the trees of her dream-gardens there had always walked a lover” is such a beautiful line in such a miserable book

This book has hogwarts but instead of following seven years of school in seven books it’s like four years in two chapters

Okay so everyone is depressed and addicted to tv and also marijuana? Got it

Okay why is everyone so upset let’s chill the book just started

Popular Mechanics - Intense and brief, Carvers specialty
Everything stuck to him - a young love, lessons of devotion, potent and stinging nostalgia
What we talk about…- kinda disappointing and rambly but an interesting ending
One more thing - all the things to say when something is over, how few words you can find

So much water so close to home - woman discovers her husband has zero empathy, naturally believes he’s a murderer
The third thing that killed my father off - the longest and most boring one yet
A serious talk - what is up with these psycho husbands
The Calm - idk a bunch of people upset at the barbershop?
These are my least favourite stories in the bunch

The Bath - a harrowing story of grappling with loss
Tell the women were going - two misogynist besties deny their feelings for each other and continually cheat on their wives
After the Denim - the longing that sits behind resentment of younger generations

Gazebo - infidelity shattering the sanctity of a relationship. Poignant images of what could be, what a relationship can represent to a person.
I could see the smallest things - the little discrepancies that tarnish friendship, and the quiet longing of that love once it’s been disrupted.
Sacks - a son drinks with his cheating father; the betrayal felt when someone you love could turn their back so easily.

1. Why don’t you dance? - a deeply sad and quiet story about what remains once love is gone
2. Viewfinder - remnants and absences as reminders of love
3. Mr. Coffee and Mr. Fixit - alcoholic cucks? Didn’t love this one

I will seemingly never finish reading this book

I’ve been reading this book for what feels like forever. Weird cause i actually do like it

unfortunately boring as hell by this point

If anyone ever asked why I’m not Catholic anymore I’d just point them to chapter 3 of this book
